Trudy and I met in 2023 at work. I would have never imagined that our friendship would be such as it is today. Our friendship has formed into an invaluable sisterhood bond. The gift of transparency cannot be shared with just anyone. We are able to be completely transparent with each other. On great days, and hard days; after we talk we feel better. We believe in each other and loudly cheer each other on through this thing we call life. Having a sister that understands you, loves you and supports you is a great blessing.
We have a sisterly love for each other and so even in our moments where we may not agree on something we speak our truth and we take the time to see each other’s point of view. We have kindred spirits, shared values and beliefs but we have different personalities. I’m more laid back and she’s more energetic, so we balance out each other perfectly. I’m from a large city, she’s from a small town, I like Funk music, she likes Country music. I believe true friends bring out the best of you. Friends that become family is God’s gift. I look forward to our travels and shopping trips, our chats on the way home from work and at work. We make it a point to speak positively in each other’s lives. We clap for each other and support each other in business, in our professional life and personal life. Making sure we remind each other that we only deserve the best. Reciprocity is important for us, we both have generous hearts and this is the first friend in my life that has the same giving heart as I do. We don’t keeps tabs on what we do for each other, we just get it.
With Trudy I was able to let my guard down and I know that she is a safe place, both of us to talk freely without judgment. Some would think how have we not gotten tired of each other, we work together, we run a business together and travel together. I wouldn’t trade our friendship and sisterhood for anything. I’m a firm believer that God brings people in your life at the right time. God aligns His people for mighty reasons, and for that I am forever grateful. Our sisterhood and friendship is one of those life long bonds. I am forever grateful for her as my best-friend and sister. We express unconditional love towards each other.
In our quest to grow Hope City Records, we were running into a recurring issue. We set out to find an all women band, women producers and professionals. The lack of diversity and opportunity in the industry of music was evident. Brooklynn retired from being a professional musician/producer over a decade ago and focused her attention on her business career. So unbeknownst to her, after returning back to the music industry, it hadn’t really developed much for women in the field of music. arts and business.
We had to hire male musicians, producers and creatives and that was not our vision. The woman artist were also deterred by men in the industry. So we pivoted, we believe that if we see a problem, we should come up with a solution. We choose at this time to create an organization called Sisters Keeper, Where Women-preneurs, Visionaries, Artist, Creatives and Believers can come be embraced & empowered by sisterhood and impact the next generation.
Sisterhood is powerful and inspiring. In the Bible Paul tells us, we are to "love one another with brotherly/sisterly affection and outdo one another in showing honor" (Romans 12:10). In the Christian community, we are our sister's keeper. Our vision for Sisters Keeper is to create a space for black women to be seen, embraced, empowered and to have a strong sense of belonging and positive faith-based community; especially in a world that does not celebrate the superpowers that black women exude.
Our friendship has formed into an invaluable sisterhood bond. We discuss our goals, dreams, fears and talk about everything in our lives. God has blessed us with each other and for that we keep God at the center of our sisterhood. As best friends we can be serious and have fun. We understand each others lives and we try to encourage one another in all that we do. We believe that friendship is so important to one’s health. They sharpen your mind, they improve your quality of life, they got your back and encourage you throughout life’s challenging moments. We clap for each other and support each other in business, in our professional
life and personal life. Making sure we remind each other that we only deserve the best.
Spiritual sisterhood is a bond between women who share common goals and come together to forward an agenda. It’s about serving together, helping each other through trials, lifting each other up when we fall, praying for one another, urging one another on in the faith. Romans 12:10 says, "Love one another with sisterly affection. Outdo one another in showing honor". We wanted to create a special place where black women can be embraced and empowered through sisterhood. Where Women-preneurs, Artist, Creatives and Believers can come and be embraced and empowered by sisterhood and impact the next generation. We personally have experienced the power of fierce sisterhood, we want to help others connect with other sisters with same values and faith.
